Hello I'm Dave Thorpe, a fulltime Herd Manager ( I milk 120cows) and a part time Peak District National Park Ranger working out of Langsett Ranger Briefing Centre situated in the picnic area provided by Yorkshire Water in the village of Langsett, next to the historic Langsett Barn.I along with my friends on the 3 other weekend shifts "patrol" the area between the Peak District/West Yorkshire boundary near Holmfirth in the North, Holme Moss and the Eastern end of Bleaklow to our west, The Trans Pennine Trail between Dunford Bridge & Penistone to our East and The Strines and the Derwent/Howden Edges to our south

Striding Edge & Helvellyn beyond
All Grid References given have been taken off my Garmin E Trex which I unhesistantly recommend to anyone as a good navigation TOOL on the understanding that YOU MUST BE ABLE TO USE A MAP & COMPASS FIRST - just carrying them and not being able to use them will not get you anywhere or out of trouble !!!! I mainly use MemoryMap software but will also recommend Tracklogs if you are on a budget.I have always used Ordnance Survey 1:25000 maps for their detail, with the exception of when I used to go Orienteering many moons ago.
